Modern Slavery Act of 2015

The Modern Slavery Act of 2015 is a UK law that aims to prevent modern slavery and human trafficking. The Act includes several regulations that require businesses to take steps to ensure that slavery and human trafficking are not taking place within their supply chains.

Under the Act, businesses are required to:

  1. Issue a statement on their website that sets out the steps they have taken to ensure that slavery and human trafficking are not taking place in their business or supply chains.
  2. Conduct due diligence to identify and address the risk of slavery and human trafficking in their supply chains.
  3. Train their staff on how to identify and report potential instances of slavery and human trafficking.
  4. Engage with suppliers to encourage them to take steps to prevent slavery and human trafficking in their own supply chains.

By requiring businesses to take steps to prevent modern slavery and human trafficking, the Act helps to ensure that businesses are not benefiting from or contributing to the harm of others.

Failure to comply with the Act can result in significant reputational damage, as well as legal and financial penalties.
